Description
The Head of Kitchen oversees all food service operations at Camp New Fork, ensuring that nutritious, high-quality meals are prepared and served on schedule for campers, staff and all various user groups at CNF. This position manages a team of kitchen staff and volunteers, maintains compliance with food safety standards, and ensures a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen operation throughout the camp season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and oversee three daily meals plus snacks for campers and staff.
- Develop menus that are balanced, kid-friendly, and adaptable to dietary restrictions and allergies.
- Manage kitchen staff, including scheduling, training, and supervision.
- Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Order, receive, and inventory all food and kitchen supplies within budget.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of all food service areas, including storage and dining spaces.
- Coordinate meal times with camp schedules and activities.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented kitchen culture that supports the camp’s mission and values.
- Work closely with the Camp Director and administrative staff to manage costs and food service logistics.
- Arrange food service for all user groups as necessary including meal planning, preparation, and clean up.

Requirements
- Minimum age: 21 years old.
- Prior experience in food service management, catering, or institutional cooking required.
- Experience leading kitchen teams preferred, ideally in a camp, school, or similar setting.
- Current ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain before camp season).
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility and positivity.
- Commitment to safety, cleanliness, and high-quality food service.
- Willingness to live on-site and participate in the camp community.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must attend staff training prior to the camp season.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
- Comfortable working in a warm kitchen environment and maintaining a demanding schedule.
